Liberty Bell girls’ soccer team whips Oroville 10-0 at home, drops game on road at Okanogan

October 7, 2015 by Methow Valley News

By Don Nelson

The Liberty Bell High School girls’ soccer team coasted to a runaway 10-0 win over Oroville on Oct. 29, but ran into a tough Okanogan team two days later to fall, 3-0.

Against Oroville, Aden Jones scored three goals, Anna Post two, and Haley Post, Hannah Weymuller, Claire Waichler, Cece Odell and Maya Sheely scored one each.

Okanogan “has a traditionally strong program and had a lot of returning players,” coach Lincoln Post said.

The game at Okanogan marked the mid-season point for the Lady Lions, an opportunity to assess how much progress the team has made and how much more is necessary, Post said.

“I’m feeling really good about this team,” Post said. “They have a great learning curve and show lots of potential.”

“But we have some work to do to play well against the good teams and get back to state,” the coach added.

The four-team state meet has become a habit for Liberty Bell lately. The Lady Lions finished second at state last year, third the year before and fourth the year before that.

Liberty Bell was at Brewster on Tuesday (Oct. 6) and hosts Manson at 4 p.m. on Thursday (Oct. 8). The Lady Lions are on the road for a game at Manson next Tuesday (Oct. 13).
