The best way to see the Winthrop Vintage Wheels Show this weekend is to park your own non-vintage wheels somewhere and walk around a lot.
On Saturday (Sept. 12), historic cars and motorcycles take over Riverside Avenue (a portion of which will be closed to 21st century traffic), antique bicycles will be displayed at Rocking Horse Bakery, and travel trailers will be showcased at Pine Near RV Park while antique tractors will be displayed at the Shafer Museum, both on Castle Avenue a block north of Riverside and a bit uphill — even better for walking.
For participants, the event begins Friday from 5 – 7 p.m. with a “cruise-in” and registration at the Winthrop Barn, where you can get a sneak preview of Saturday’s show.
From 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, antique automobile owners will register, line up and stage at the Winthrop Inn on the east edge of town in preparation for the parade. At 10:30 a.m., staging begins for vintage motorcycles, trailers, tractors, pedal cars and antique bicycles at their respective areas.
The parade of vintage cars begins at 11 a.m. Awards, including best-in-show and people’s choice, will be presented at 3 p.m.
