Due to wildfires near the Chelan Ridge HawkWatch site, the 2015 Hawk Migration Festival has been moved to North Cascades Basecamp in Mazama.
The sixth annual festival will take place Sept. 11–13, with a workshop on Friday evening, and field trips up to the relocated HawkWatch study site at Slate Peak on Saturday and Sunday.
The Sept. 11 workshop at North Cascades Basecamp, led by Dave Oleyar from HawkWatch International, is free and starts at 7 p.m. On Sept. 12 and Sept. 13, car pools to 7,200-foot Slate Peak depart from Basecamp at 8:45 a.m. Field trip participants will spend about four hours at the study site on Slate Peak, and expect to be back at Basecamp by about 3 p.m., according to festival organizer Richard Scranton.
