Gridiron players from age 8 (PeeWee) to 18 (Liberty Bell High School varsity) showed up in numbers last Sunday afternoon (Aug. 9) for a football potluck and barbecue held at the Lookout Mountain residence of PeeWee coaches Tom and Erin White.
With parents and supporters in tow, the players unofficially kicked off their seasons that will get underway with practices beginning Aug. 17 for the 8-to-12-year-old PeeWees and Aug. 19 for the LBHS players.
The gathering was something of a double-barreled affair that included a sign-up table for the next crop of youngsters entering the PeeWee ranks, and recognized senior Gavin Wengerd, who is the first to complete the cycle of White-coached players to start out as a PeeWee and finish as a Mountain Lions varsity senior.
There is still time for interested youngsters to register for the PeeWee league. The cost is $85 per player and $50 for each additional sibling. For more information contact Erin White at 997-0279.
