Narcissus, and other varieties, are available at the teen center flower bulb sale.

Teen center sells bulbs

The Valley Teen Center’s second annual fall flower bulb sale is underway through Sept. 15. The bulb sale supports teen center programs. A selection of tulips, daffodils and other winter-hardy bulbs are available to pre-order for delivery at planting time in October. Call YardFood at 997-0978 in Twisp for information, or print out an online order form at www.mvalleyteencenter.wordpress.com.

Flutes and more

The Methow Valley Interpretive Center in Twisp will host Native American flute player Tim Brooks along with family and friends on Aug. 30 beginning at 4 p.m. Local flute players, drummers and singers are also invited to the free event. For more information, call 997-0620.

New board members

Betsy Cushman, executive director of Methow Recycles in Twisp, and Craig Nelson, district manager for the Okanogan Conservation District, have been named to the board of directors for the Community Foundation of North Central Washington.

Democrats’ picnic

The Okanogan County Democrats’ annual picnic will be on Sunday (Aug. 16) at Conconully State Park beginning at noon. Bring a potluck dish.

Garlic Festival is coming

Tonasket’s annual Garlic Festival will take place Aug. 21 – 22 at History Park on the Okanogan River. The free event will be from noon – 8 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Saturday, and will include vendors, family activities, games, a pie-eating contest, and classes in garlic growing, braiding and cooking. There will also be a beer garden, musical entertainment by several performers, and a dance.
