Schematic drawings demonstrate how the various sections of Winthrop’s RiverWalk project could be designed.

The Town of Winthrop will host a public meeting on Monday (July 27) to discuss progress on design of the RiverWalk project, which is intended to create a linked system of recreational trails along the Chewuch and Methow rivers that includes the Susie Stephens Trail.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Winthrop Barn. SCJ Alliance, which is doing some of the design work for the project, has developed conceptual drawings that will be displayed.

Town Planner Rocklynn Culp said development plans are concentrated on an area along the river between the Farmers Exchange Building and Carlos 1800 Restaurant, both on Riverside Avenue. That includes an underpass for the Chewuch River Bridge, which is being designed with the help of funds from the Stephens Trail project and a federal grant.

Culp said a goal of the meeting is to focus more conversation on the project, which has been discussed on and off for years.
