In planning “for a more sustainable future,” Arrowleaf Bistro, located for the past eight years on the boardwalk in Winthrop, will soon begin construction on a new home.

Bistro co-owners Jon Brown and Joanne Uehara have purchased the lot on the corner of White Avenue and Highway 20 — next to Robins Egg Bleu antiques  — and plan to break ground on their new building this summer, Uehara said.

Pinto Design is currently drawing up plans for the 2,000-square-foot building, and Big Picture Construction will begin work as soon as permitting is complete.

“This decision is not necessarily about expanding, it’s long-term planning,” Uehara said. “Our impetus to move is trying to figure out the restaurant’s future here in Winthrop.”

Arrowleaf Bistro’s present facility, in a remodeled 1927-era home on Riverside Avenue, “isn’t going to sustain us long term,” Uehara said. “At this point it would need significant upgrades to continue on for another 10 years.

“We love what we do and we want to continue doing it,” Uehara continued. “We’ve made a commitment to stay in Winthrop, and we want to maintain the integrity of what we do.”

Uehara said they hope to open in the new location in spring of 2016.
