Design a T-shirt that says ‘Twisp’
Think you have a design idea for a T-shirt message that absolutely nails the concept of Twisp?
Methow Arts Alliance wants to hear from you — or more to the point, wants to see what you have in mind. And there’s money involved.
The arts organization is sponsoring a Twisp T-shirt contest to come up with a design that “captures the essence of Twisp … we encourage an innovative, professional and thoughtful design,” according to a press release. The winning entrant will receive $250.
The design may include Twisp “branding elements” including local institutions and offerings.
Deadline for submissions is Friday (June 12). All designs must be original artwork, must be print-ready and be designed to work well on T-shirts. The winning design will be selected by a panel of local artists and Twisp representatives. For more information, go to http://tinyurl.com/TwispTshirtGuidelines.
Submissions can be emailed to info@methowartsalliance.org; mailed to Methow Arts Alliance, P.O. Box 723, Twisp, WA 98856; or brought to the Methow Arts office, 109 Second Ave. (call first, 997-4004).
Take flight at arts festival
“Flight” is the theme of the annual Methow Arts Festival on July 4 in the Twisp town park. As usual, the festival will offer an array of entertainment and hands-on art experiences for all ages, plus food, games, art demonstrations and contests.
New this year are a beer garden, art classes for teens and adults, and local art vendors, as well as wandering performance artists and a reprise of the recent Trashion Fashion show.
Performers will include Nanda Acrobaticalist Ninja Theater, Olivia de la Cruz and Isaac Castillo, poi dancing with Christina Stout, aerial arts with Sarah Prochnau, and a day-long music festival on the main stage.
More than a dozen booths will offer participatory art activities. Demonstration booths will feature painters, glass artists, massage therapists, needle felting and local firefighters. There will be pie-eating and hula hoop contests.
The festival will run from 11:30 a.m. (after the Fourth of July parade) until 3 p.m.
A group pass — for four people of any age — is available in advance for $25. Regular admission is $5 for kids age 5 and up (including tickets for five booths), and $8 for adults. Kids under 5 attend for free. Tickets are available at Riverside Printing in Winthrop, the Methow Arts Alliance office in Twisp, and at www.brownpapertickets.com.

Kids’ art camps start in July
Confluence Gallery summer art camps for kids begin July 7 and continue through Aug. 6 with sessions for ages 7-11 and 12-15.

Art will be created at the Education Station, but teachers may take students on walking field trips in Twisp for inspiration or to collect materials. Students will be required to bring their own water, lunches or snacks and have swim gear and sun protection.
Cost of each weekly camp session is $150 per student including supplies. Scholarships may be available upon request for students ages 13-15.
Register by calling 997-2787, or email info@confluencegallery.com. Class sizes are limited and early registration is recommended.
