Capping the best season in the 14-year history of the program, the Liberty Bell High School varsity boys’ soccer team leveraged a third-place finish in the District 6 2B/1A soccer tournament into its first-ever state playoff appearance.
The Mountain Lions hit the pitch against the Scotties of Highland High School at Cowiche on May 19 to see which team would move on to the state round of eight. Highland prevailed, 4-0, to end Liberty Bell’s season.
Liberty Bell played a mostly defensive first half that found Highland threatening on a number of occasions as goalkeeper Mikey Hafsos worked to keep several Scottie attempts from finding the net.
Highland adjusted its offense during halftime and managed four goals in the final 40 minutes of play, while holding the Mountain Lions scoreless, to preserve the victory.
Liberty Bell ended its history-making season with an 8-4 league record and 13-6 overall.
