Researchers studying the social impacts of wildfires will be in the area later this month to talk to people about their experiences during the Carlton Complex Fire.
The University of Idaho researchers are interested in how people made decisions about evacuation and other matters during the emergency. They will also look at long-term recovery.
They hope to talk to area residents who were — and still are — affected by the fire, no matter how large or small the impacts are.
Researchers will share their findings with policy makers and agency firefighters. They hope their research will help improve wildfire response and recovery.
The research is being funded by a grant from NASA to investigate the social characteristics of extreme wildfires. It will be used in a graduate-student dissertation. All interviews will be completely confidential.
Researchers will be in the area for about three weeks starting the week of May 18. To schedule an interview or for more information, contact Cat Edgeley at (208) 596-7063 or cedgeley@uidaho.edu.
