May 14, 2015 by Methow Valley News

The Liberty Bell High School boys’ and girls’ tennis teams both triumphed over visiting Lake Roosevelt on April 28, with the Mountain Lions’ Lucy Dupont going to extraordinary lengths to ensure the girls’ win.

Dupont, playing the No. 1 singles position, battled for more than two hours in an epic duel with Lake Roosevelt’s Harmony Witten before winning 3-6, 6-3, 7-6, in a sudden-death tie-breaker.

Dupont’s hard-earned victory gave the girls’ team a 3-2 edge over Lake Roosevelt. Erin Frey won her singles match, 6-2, 6-3, and the doubles team of sisters Sidni and Logan Butler won their match, 7-6, 6-2. Emily Alexander lost her singles match, 6-2, 6-3, and the second doubles team of  Chloe Temple and Tiva Ward lost, 6-4, 6-2.

On the boys’ side, the undefeated doubles team of Jesse Schulz and Dreyton Acord swept their opponents aside, 6-1, 6-2, to lead the Mountain Lions to a 4-1 victory.

Other wins came from Josh Frey in the No. 1 singles spot, 6-0, 6-0; D.J. Haley with an 8-4 singles win; and Forest Rickabaugh and Greyson
Alexander in the second doubles slot, 6-3, 1-6, 7-3. Fallon Hutson lost his singles match, 6-4, 6-2.

The Mountain Lions were scheduled to play at White Swan on Tuesday (May 5), then return home to face Pateros on Thursday (May 7) at 4 p.m. and Entiat on Tuesday (May 12), also at 4 p.m. in the final regular-season match.
