The Liberty Bell High School soccer team put up eight goals against Oroville for an easy victory, then needed just one goal to outlast Manson in games last week.

In a home match on April 22, the Mountain Lions stormed to a 6-0 lead over Oroville in the first half, which allowed coach Lincoln Post to turn the second half over to junior varsity players in the 8-1 win.

Liberty Bell’s scoring was spread around, with the prolific Jorge Lara and Leif Portmann-Bown each scoring two and Charlie Thornton-White, Bram Wathen, Cade Quigley and Jed Butler netting one each.

Against Manson with post-season consequences on the line, Liberty Bell scored on what Post called a “perfect cross-field pass” from Thornton-White to Rowan Post to grab a 1-0 victory on Saturday (April 25). Goalkeeper Mike Hafsos shut out Manson with solid defensive support, Post said.

The Mountain Lions host Manson again this week on Thursday (April 30) at 4 p.m.

That game and a final game against Okanogan at home on Tuesday (May 5) will help determine seeding for post-season play, which Liberty Bell has already qualified for. The Mountain Lions are aiming to claim the home-field advantage, Post said.
