Mountain Lions do well in 16-team K Valley Rally track meet

Ben Klemmeck took first place in the 3,200-meter run, and Lauren Fitzmaurice and Natalie Treise blazed to a one-two finish in the 100-meter hurdles, as the Liberty Bell High School track teams returned to post-spring break action at the K Valley Rally in Kittitas on Friday (April 17).

The boys’ team scored 58.33 points to take sixth place out of 16 teams; the girls’ team scored 36 points for ninth place.

Ben Klemmeck clocked a time of 10 minutes, 18.13 seconds to take the 3,200m run. His brother Josiah placed fifth in the 1,600m run with a time of 5:07.34.

Wil Chandler took fourth place in the 400m run with a time of 57.56 seconds. Carter Dornfeld’s time of 2:22.68 earned him seventh place in the 800m run.

Micah Klemmeck had a busy and productive day, placing second in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 10 inches, third in the 110m high hurdles with a time of 17.54 seconds, and anchoring the Mountain Lions to a second-place finish in the 4X100m relay. The team of Klemmeck, Chandler, Jose Dominguez and Andrew Reggiatore clocked in at 46.16 seconds.

Liberty Bell took third place in the 4x400m relay, with Josiah Klemmeck, Ben Klemmeck, Dornfeld and Eli Nielsen finishing the four circuits in a time of 3:57.8.

Dominguez landed seventh in the long jump at 17 feet, 11.5 inches, and tenth in the 100m dash in 11.91 seconds.

Reggiatore tossed the javelin 163 feet, 4 inches to claim second place.

On the girls’ side, Fitzmaurice and Treise took the hurdles in 18.03 and 18.12 seconds respectively. Fitzmaurice also took fourth place in the 300m hurdles with a time of 54.44 seconds.

The 4x200m relay team of Fitzmaurice, Treise, Jessica Johnson and Haley Post took sixth place in a time of 2:03.13. Fitzmaurice took fourth place in the high jump at 4 feet, 6 inches, and Ashley Watson took seventh place by clearing 3 feet, 10 inches. Watson leapt 14 feet in the long jump to claim fifth place.

Liberty Bell hosted a five-team meet on Tuesday (April  21). The teams will travel to Peshastin on Friday (April 24) for the Rieke Invitational, then to Chelan for a four-way meet on Tuesday (April 28).
