Lamprey film at pub
The Lost Fish, a film about the oldest known fish in the Columbia River system, the Pacific lamprey, will be screened this evening (April 22) at the Twisp River Pub. The free even, sponsored by the Cascade Columbia Fisheries Enhancement Group, begins at 7 p.m.; a $10 buffet dinner will be available beginning at 6 p.m. There will be a presentation by John Crandall after the film. Wildflower hikes this weekend
The Okanogan Chapter of Washington Native Plant Society hosts two wildflower hikes this weekend.
On Saturday (April 25), professional botanist Therese Ohlson will lead a 3-mile loop hike on Patterson Mountain, where many flowers will be in full bloom. The hike starts at 10 a.m. To reserve a spot contact Ohlson at 997-0118, or email peteandtherese@gmail.com.

The Methow Valley Interpretive Center in Twisp will host “Lichens: the People Connection” on Sunday (April 26) at 5 p.m. Artist Sara Ashford and botanist George Wooten will be the presenters. The event is free; donations are appreciated.
The Interpretive Center is now open for the season. New displays this year include “Dead Trees Give New Life,” “Conflagration to Transformation,” “Opening Up the World of the Lowly Lichen,” and the “Firewise Info Center.” Seattle’s Burke Museum will also come through with fresh displays and presentations. Hours are Saturdays from 10 a.m.–5 p.m., and Sundays from noon–5 p.m. Summer hours will include Fridays from noon-5 p.m. For more information, call 997-4904.
Weave a pine needle basket
The Methow Valley Interpretive Center will offer a class on weaving pine needle baskets beginning May 1 from noon–5 p.m. and continuing every Friday through Aug. 28 at the same hours. Cost is $10 for materials. For more information, call 997-4904.
Comp plan workshop
A public workshop on the Town of Winthrop’s comprehensive plan update will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday (April 28) in the Henhouse room at the Winthrop Barn. Town staff and planning commission members will be on hand to help with information and questions. Draft elements of the plan will be available on the town’s website, www.townofwinthrop.com, and will also be made available at the Winthrop library. Hard copies may be purchased at Town Hall. Winthrop Market opens in May
The Winthrop Market will open on May 24 at Mack Lloyd Park on Highway 20 and will operate on Sundays from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. through Sept. 6. The market offers food, arts and crafts and other locally made products. Potential vendors must fill out an application.
