The Liberty Bell High School soccer team won three games in three days last week, a promising set-up for their first home match on Tuesday (March 31) against Manson.
On March 24, the Mountain Lions edged Oroville, 3-2, behind goals by Jorge Lara, Marty Larsen and the winning kick by Jed Butler, an eighth-grader.
“We could not get the ball in the net,” coach Lincoln Post said. “I think we hit the post eight times.”
Against the Chelan junior varsity on March 25, Liberty Bell outlasted the home team, 6-4.
“We scored early and controlled most of the game but Chelan staged a late comeback to score four goals and narrow the lead,” Post said.
Charlie Thornton-White and Bram Wathen each scored two goals, and Jorge Lara added another to score in his fifth consecutive game.
The Mountain Lions’ junior varsity beat the Chelan “C” squad, 5-1. Butler tallied three goals, Carson Gunnip Hunter added another and Henry Jones rounded out the scoring.
“The JV looked great, passing well, controlling the pace of play and creating a lot of scoring opportunities,” Post said.
At Omak on Thursday (March 26,) Thornton-White scored two goals and that was enough to top the home team, 2-0.
“We played a good control passing game, but the Omak goalkeeper and defense limited our opportunities,” Post said. “Our defense of Adrian Casillas, Garett Palm, Brennen Quigley and Danny Rodriquez played well together and are becoming a formidable defense.”
The Mountain Lions play at Okanogan on Thursday (April 2), and will host Brewster after spring break on April 14.
