Liberty Bell High School’s boys’ and girls’ track teams turned in some impressive individual and relay efforts at a five-way meet on Thursday (March 26) in Cashmere.
The boys’ 4×400-meter relay team of Emmett Fink, Andrew Reggiatore, Jose Dominguez and Ben Klemmeck knocked 9 seconds off its previous best time with a first-place finish in 3 minutes, 43.73 seconds. The 4x100m relay team of Fink, Reggiatore, Dominguez and Micah Klemmeck also took first in a time on 47.04 seconds.
Coach Rocky Kulsrud noted that several Mountain Lions registered personal bests at the Cashmere meet.
Ben Klemmeck improved his time in the 1,600m run to 4:49.45 to win by half a second. Micah Klemmeck took on the high jump and 300m hurdles for the first time, clearing 5 feet 6 inches to tie for sixth place and running a 44.81 hurdle race for third place. Josiah Klemmeck ran his best 3,200m race, taking second place in 10:48:17.
Reggiatore set a personal record in the javelin with a toss of 129 feet 5 inches for second place, and also registered his best long jump, 17 feet 9.5 inches, for sixth place. He was edged by teammate Dominguez, who leapt a personal-best 18 feet 3.5 inches to take fourth place in the long jump.
Dominguez took third place in the 100m with a time of 12.29 seconds, Fink took third place in the 200m with a time of 25.02 seconds, and Micah Klemmeck triple-jumped 37 feet 7.5 inches for second place.
Sarina Williams continued her dominance in the girls’ javelin with a first-place toss of 117 feet 2 inches, 26 feet farther than the second-place competitor.
Freshman Natalie Treise demonstrated what the future holds by winning the triple jump with a leap of 31 feet 4 inches, and finishing second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 18.17 seconds.
The Mountain Lion girls’ 4x100m relay team of Haley Post, Cece Odell, Jessica Johnson and Ashley Watson took third place with a time of 57.25 seconds. The 4x200m team of Post, Johnson, Treise and Lauren Fitzmaurice claimed third place with a time of 2 minutes 9.97 seconds.
Fitzmaurice finished fourth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 19.08 seconds, followed by Johnson in fifth place with a time of 20.02 seconds.
Fitzmaurice also ran 55.03 seconds in the 300m hurdles for fourth place, and jumped 14 feet 2 inches for fourth place in the long jump.
Liberty Bell competes again on April 11 at the Cashmere Invitational.
