Community briefs: April 1, 2015

April 2, 2015 by Methow Valley News

Egg hunt at Pearrygin

Make sure you get to Pearrygin Lake State Park’s main campground before noon on Saturday (April 4), because that’s when the Twisp Valley Grange’s annual Easter egg hunt starts — and they don’t wait for dawdlers. The event is free, and no Discover Pass is needed to park. After the egg hunt there will be a barbecue and opportunities for photos with the Easter bunny. The real one, of course. Bring a blanket to sit on for the picnic and a bucket for the goodies in the eggs. For more information, call 997-9357.

Get to Goat Day

Learn all about goats — raising them, milking them, using them for weed control and even consuming them in recipes — at Goat Day, Saturday (April 4) at Caso’s Country Foods in Okanogan. The free event, hosted by the UROK 4-H Club and Okanogan Conservation District, will be from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. For more information, call (509) 826-9492.

Fire loss support group

A fire loss support group will meet at Room One in Twisp beginning Wednesday (April 8). The free series of eight meetings will be led by Sue Peterson and Uri Silberstein. The group will meet from 6:30–8:30 p.m. each evening. The meetings are intended for adults experiencing loss, grief or trauma related to the fires and mudslides of 2014 and seeking group connection, healing and support. Attendees need to come to at least one of the first three meetings. For more information, call 997-2050.

The Westernization story

It’s been more than 40 years since Winthrop went Western as a way to attract tourists pouring into the valley on the newly opened North Cascades Highway. Head to the Winthrop Barn on April 9 if you are interested in hearing the behind-the-scenes stories about how Westernization came about and the individuals, businesses and organizations that made it happen, with guests John Lester and Larry Higbee. The free event begins at 6 p.m. For more information, call 996-2315.

Open house at Room One

Room One in Twisp will host an open house on April 16 from 4–6 p.m. The event marks the official opening of the social service agency’s newly remodeled building. Tours will be available. For more information, call 997-2050.
