Life drawing class
A four-week class in life drawing, with instructor Robin Nelson-Wicks, begins April 16 at Confluence Gallery in Twisp and continues for the following three Thursdays. Poet laureate in Twisp
Elizabeth Austen, Washington state’s poet laureate, will read from her works on April 16 at the Twisp library. The free event begins at 7 p.m. For more information, call 997-4681.
Los de Abajo at Winthrop Barn
Los de Abajo, a Mexico City-based musical group whose 10 members play salsa, reggae, cumbia, rock and ska, will perform on April 18 at the Winthrop Barn in an appearance sponsored by Methow Arts. The show begins at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door, $25 for reserved seating and $5 for those 14 and under, and are available at the Methow Arts office in Twisp, Riverside Printing in Winthrop, Nectar Skin Bar in Winthrop or at brownpapertickets.com.
Methow Arts is offering free tickets to students and families who lost their homes in the wildfires of the past summer, and to clients of The Cove, Room One, and the Methow Valley Senior Center at those locations.
Formed in 1992, Los de Abajo “has built a distinctive fusion of regional music and rhythms with powerful lyrics focused on political and social activism,” according to a Methow Arts press release. They have recorded several CDs and toured extensively around the world.

Wearable recyclables

Acoustical rhythm concert

Free concert for fire recovery
The Copper Mountain Band will perform at a free concert to benefit Carlton Complex Fire survivors on May 1 at Pateros Memorial Park from 8 p.m. – midnight. A beer garden will be available. Donations will be accepted for fire survivors. For more information, call (509) 689-8045.
Kids’ art party
A kids’ art party from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on May 1 at Methow Valley Elementary School, led by Joanne Marracci, will focus on making leather bracelets for Mother’s Day. The class is for kids in grades one through five; cost is $35. For more information, call 997-2787.
Immerse yourself
Confluence Gallery is offering an experiential painting and drawing workshop with Diana Sanford, “Immerse Yourself in the Process,” on May 16 and 17 at TwispWorks. Cost is $225. Original Renard cards at Cinnamon Twisp
Framed 5- by 7-inch originals of the Karel Renard greeting cards that are sold at Cinnamon Twisp Bakery are now on exhibit at the bakery until Aug. 1. Renard, a local artist, makes the cards entirely from pieces of paper glued by hand and collaged to create images. The originals are available for purchase.
