Senior pitcher Kelsey Baldwin won both halves of a double-header at Oroville on Saturday (March 21) to give the Liberty Bell High School softball team a 2-0 record in early-season league play.
The Lady Lions beat Oroville 6-2 in the first game and followed with a 6-1 victory in the second game. Baldwin struck out 11 and walked only one in the first victory, then struck out six and walked four in the second win.
Senior Whitney Fox pounded a triple in the first game, and senior Baylee Canedo rapped two hits to highlight the offense.
In the second game, Canedo doubled and Baldwin added a triple to complement her pitching performance.
In the season’s opening game on Thursday (March 19), the Lady Lions dropped a 12-2 decision in a non-league contest at Omak.
Coach Lee Pilkinton said the team’s 15 players include five seniors. “We have a lot of strong players back from last year,” he said. “We have the makings of a real good team.”
Liberty Bell traveled to Lake Roosevelt on Tuesday (March 24), and the Lady Lions will play their first home game against Pateros on Monday (March 30) at 4:30 p.m. They will then host Chelan in a non-league game on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
