Valley residents injured in Hwy. 20 traffic accident

March 26, 2015 by Methow Valley News

Two Methow Valley residents and an Omak resident were injured Monday (March 23) in an early morning traffic accident on Highway 20 about six miles west of Okanogan, the Washington State Patrol reported.

According to the State Patrol, Judith E. Olsen, 70, of Carlton, was driving eastbound near milepost 226 at about 7:50 a.m. when her vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the center line and sideswiped a westbound vehicle driven by Amanda C. Emerson, 25, of Omak. Olsen’s vehicle rolled over and came to a stop in the eastbound ditch; Emerson’s vehicle came to rest on the eastbound shoulder, the report said.

Olsen was transported to Mid-Valley Hospital in Omak with unspecified injuries, according to the report. Olsen was no longer at Mid-Valley on Tuesday, a hospital spokesperson said.

Emerson and a passenger in her vehicle, Travis J. Smith, 35, of Winthrop, were both injured and were driven from the accident scene in private vehicles, the State Patrol report said.

Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt, the report said. Drugs or alcohol did not appear to be involved, according to the State Patrol. A charge of driving across the center line may be filed against Olsen, the report said.

Olsen’s vehicle was totaled while Emerson’s car was damaged, according to the report. Both were towed from the scene.
