Get your valentine something sweet at Dazzling Desserts

February 12, 2015 by Methow Valley News

By Laurelle Walsh

Take home a dazzling treat for your valentine at the sixth annual Dazzling Desserts sale this Saturday (Feb. 14), from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., being held this year at a new location: the Methow Valley Masonic Lodge, 223 Hwy. 20 in Twisp.

A variety of “specialty, homemade desserts made with love,” will be offered at the one-day sale, along with “elegant treats you can’t find at the local market,” according to sale organizer Carol Sorg. These include plenty of chocolate items — brownies, candies, fudge and cookies — along with specialty cakes, cheesecakes, bar cookies and even doggie biscuits, Sorg said. A “dollar basket” will allow kids to pick out something special as well, she added.

All desserts are arranged on decorative dishes and wrapped in cellophane to make a nice gift and make transport easier, Sorg said.

Proceeds from the sale go to support Torre Fuerte Girls’ Home, a home for at-risk girls in Arequipa, Peru, which several members of the Methow Valley’s faith-based community have visited over the past decade.

Torre Fuerte provides a home for 40 girls from babies to teens, who have suffered abuse, abandonment, neglect and severe poverty, according to minister-in-residence Scott Hargrove, formerly of Chelan.

“So while you’re thinking of your valentine, why not give a special gift to the girls in Peru?” suggested Sorg.

More information about Torre Fuerte may be found at https://peruzings.wordpress.com, or on Facebook at Torre Fuerte Girls’ Home.

For those who can’t make it to the sale on Saturday, a table will be set up at Hank’s on Sunday starting at noon to sell any remaining desserts, said Sorg.

For more information, contact Sorg at 997-2467.
