Liberty Bell High School teams came away with two first-place finishes in recent Knowledge Bowl competition.
Team 2 took first place in Wenatchee on Jan. 26. The team, which scored 53 points, was captained by Sebastian Hogness and included Danny Rodriguez, Isaac Cordes and Noah Batson.
Team 2 won all three of its matches and came out ahead of Wenatchee, Eastmont, Ephrata, Cascade, Waterville, Manson and Quincy, according to coach Leverett Hubbard.
Liberty Bell Team 1 placed sixth out of the 21 teams with 40 points. The team was captained by Rowan Post and included Brennan Quigly, Riley Calvert and Skyler Fitzmaurice.
Liberty Bell Team 3, captained by Hannah Hogness and including Koharu Yonebayashi and Charlie Thornton White, finished in 19th place.
On Monday (Feb. 2), Liberty Bell traveled to Manson and went up against Waterville, Pateros, Manson, Okanogan, Tonasket and Omak. Team 1, captained by Post and including Sebastian Hogness, Rodriguez, Fitzmaurice and Hannah Hogness, won first place with a score of 69 points.
Tonasket Team 1 came in second with 62 points and Liberty Bell Team 2, made up of Cordes, Quigly, Batson, Claire Waichler and Nate Hirsch, came in third overall with 57 points.
Next week Liberty Bell travels to Moses Lake, where all the teams from the North Central Washington region will be competing.
“We will face Soap Lake for the first time, which could give us real trouble at the regional competition later this month,” Hubbard said. “We will need to place in the top three to advance from the regional level to the state tournament in March.”
