Duncan to chair state committee on homelessness

Lael Duncan, executive director of the Okanogan County Community Action Council, has been appointed by Gov. Jay Inslee to chair the State Advisory Council on Homelessness.
At Community Action, Duncan led the development of the county’s 10-year plan to end homelessness, and she continues to work there with people in need, helping them find stable housing, build individual skills with the goal of self-sufficiency, and access other social services.
Duncan has served on the state committee since 2006.
“Lael will bring invaluable experience and energy to her new leadership role for the Council,” Inslee said. “She is committed to finding local solutions to homelessness that work for the whole of Washington state.”
The State Advisory Council on Homelessness is a 20-member group of volunteers that provides recommendations to the governor and the Affordable Housing Advisory Board to improve the state’s response to homelessness. Members include representatives from state agencies, the Governor’s Office, private businesses, nonprofit organizations, public housing authorities, youths, and at least one member who is currently, or has been, homeless.
