December 18, 2014 by Methow Valley News

Ski Rodeo on New Year’s Eve

The Ski Rodeo, Methow Trails’ first event of the winter, will be on Dec. 31 at the Mazama Corral Trailhead, offering events for all age groups and competitive instincts.

Races (or tours, depending on your pace) will include free 1-kilometer and 2.5K races for kids; a 5K race with an entry fee of $25; and a 10K race with an entry fee of $30. Registration is required for the 2.5K, 5K and 10K races. Register at www.methowtrails.org.

The races begin at 10 a.m. Costumes are encouraged.

Timing will be offered to racers registered by Dec. 28. The first 200 participants registered will receive a pint glass courtesy of sponsor Nordic Ultratune.

Bib pickup and late registration will be from 4-5:30 p.m. on Dec. 30 at the Methow Trails Office in Winthrop; and from 8:45-9:45 a.m. at the Mazama Community Club on Dec. 31.

Jan. 1 is free day at Pearrygin

Washington State Parks’ first “free day” of the year is the first day of the year. On New Year’s Day 2015, no Discover Pass is required at Pearrygin Lake State Park. For a demonstration fat bike ride on nearby trails led by Sally Ranzau, meet at 10:30 at the park’s east entrance. Bring your own bike or a rental. There will be a lunch after the ride. For more information, call 996-3645.
