Methow Recycles, Cascade Concrete and local volunteers are teaming up to help people clean up and recycle metal debris from the Carlton Complex Fire.
Organizers of the program can help make arrangements for collecting and recycling roofing, appliances, farm equipment or vehicles. Proceeds from the metal go to the homeowner or to Methow Recycles to be shared with local organizations helping fire survivors.
Local contractors and volunteers are available to assist with site clean-up and organization of debris, including sorting metal from material bound for the landfill.
People can also recycle metal from cars and other vehicles that burned in the fire. To be recycled as scrap, the vehicles must have a title, replacement title or hulk vehicle affidavit.
Getting a replacement title is straightforward, but obtaining a hulk vehicle affidavit — for abandoned vehicles without titles — is more complex, according to Betsy Cushman, executive director of Methow Recycles.
To obtain a replacement title, call the Department of Licensing at 996-2886 or 422-7350.
For a hulk vehicle affidavit, you can get help from Methow Recycles. Call Cushman at 996-2696.
Whether you are doing the hauling yourself or hiring a contractor, the metal delivery has to be scheduled with Cascade Concrete. Call 996-3425.
