Okanogan County Public Utility District (PUD) is warning of a scam targeting residential and business customers in Okanogan County. The scammers claim to be from the PUD and threaten to shut off service for a past-due bill. They demand payment by wire transfer or a prepaid debit card.
The scammers may be using deceptive tactics to manipulate caller ID systems to make it appear the call is coming from the PUD when it is not.
If you receive a suspicious phone call, hang up and call the PUD at (509) 422-3310.
You can also report suspicious calls or emails to the state Attorney General’s Office at (800) 551-4636, which is investigating the scam.
