Veterans lead Lady Lions into 2014-15 basketball season

December 4, 2014 by Methow Valley News

By Mike Maltais

The Liberty Bell High School varsity girls’ basketball team starts the season with 11 returning veterans as the Lady Lions face a larger, tougher Central Washington 2B league lineup this season.

Baylee Canedo, Monica Chavey, Lauren Fitzmaurice, Erin Knight, Katie Labanauskas, Haley Bakke, Lauren Ochoa, Jessica Johnson, Amanda Dwinell, Kristina Oestreich and Megan Damman will join 12 new faces on the varsity roster for coach Ed Smith and assistant coach Ryan Surface.

New to the CW2B north this year are Tonasket, Brewster and Okanogan. The three former 1A Caribou Trail League schools will join Bridgeport, Manson, Oroville and Lake Roosevelt as rivals for the Lady Lions.

The CW2B south division includes White Swan, Kittitas, Warden, Mabton, Soap Lake and Waterville.

Liberty Bell was scheduled to open its season against Tonasket, Oroville, and Okanogan at the Okanogan Jamboree on Tuesday (Dec. 2).

The Lady Lions are scheduled to play the Shockers at Waterville on Thursday (Dec. 4), and then host Pateros on Saturday (Dec. 6) and Lake Roosevelt on Tuesday (Dec. 9).
