Hear well-loved carols and ballet music lively enough to warm your toes at the Okanogan Valley Orchestra & Chorus’ holiday concert on Sunday (Dec. 7).
The chorus will present a selection of seasonal music including Handel’s “Praise the Lord” and an arrangement of popular seasonal tunes called “Bells of Joy.” Because the concert falls on Pearl Harbor Day, the chorus will pay tribute to that era with “U.S.O. on Tour,” a medley of World War II songs, among them “In The Mood,” “As Time Goes By” and “White Christmas.”
The orchestra will perform several Christmas medleys. “A Canadian Brass Christmas” highlights less-common holiday songs including “The Huron Carol,” and the jazzy “Charlie Brown Christmas” captures music from the Peanuts holiday special.
Also on the orchestral program are an evocative symphonic poem called “Aspen Fantasy” and selections from Aram Khachaturians’s ballet Gayane, which features Armenian folk melodies and zesty, energetic rhythms.
The choir and orchestra will close with a combined rendition of Pacem Noel.
The concert is at 3 p.m. at the Omak Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, $8 for youth and free for those under 12.
