The Liberty Bell High School varsity boys’ basketball team was scheduled to open its season at the Okanogan Jamboree on Tuesday (Dec. 2) and host the Pateros Billygoats on Monday (Dec. 8) before the Mountain Lions get down to serious play against league opponent Lake Roosevelt on Tuesday (Dec. 9).
The jamboree invited teams from Tonasket, Oroville, Liberty Bell and host Okanogan.
However, the Bulldogs are also playing Napavine at the Tacoma Dome for the 2B state football championship on Friday (Dec. 5). Since a number of Bulldog varsity football players also play basketball or wrestle, the scheduling conflict has athletic directors for Central Washington 2B north division teams scrambling to make last-minute changes to accommodate the latest developments.
Liberty Bell will face six league opponents in the CW2B north this season. Along with Okanogan, the Mountain Lions will play Brewster, Bridgeport, Lake Roosevelt, Manson, Oroville and Tonasket.
The CW2B south is comprised of Kittitas, Mabton, Soap Lake, Warden, Waterville and White Swan.
Coach Kyle Acord has a roster of 22 players hitting the hardwood this season.
Playing for the Mountain Lions are Jose Dominguez, Carter Dornfeld, Josh Frey, Willy Duguay, Tim Haley, Ben Klemmeck, Jorge Lara, Garrett Dornfeld, Andrew Reggiatore, Connor Cooley, Ryan Kensrud, Micah Klemmeck, D.J. Haley, Jesse Schulz, Carson Gunnip-Hunter, Zane Herrera, Brendan Saling, Quinten Knox, Adrian Casillas, Corydon Goodman, Leif Portmann-Bown and Zhu (Alex) Junrui.
