Free avalanche clinic for snowmobilers
Aero Methow Rescue Service is hosting a free Avalanche Awareness Clinic for snowmobilers at its headquarters in Twisp on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m.
The 90-minute introductory clinic, taught by the Northwest Avalanche Center, discusses where and why avalanches occur, who gets caught and why, and provides a basic approach to staying safe in the backcountry.
“It’s an essential class for anyone with little to no avalanche education who is going to travel in the backcountry,” said program coordinator Nick Rustigian. “It’s also a great refresher for anyone with backcountry and avalanche education.”
Students will learn to access local avalanche bulletins and weather reports, recognize the basic signs of avalanche danger and avoid them, and understand the need for companion rescue techniques and equipment.
Space is limited; call 997-4013 to reserve a spot.
