‘Winter Wonder’ coming to The Merc

The Merc Playhouse will present “Winter Wonder, Stories and Dance for the Season” from Dec. 5 – 13. Directed by Ki Gottberg with Sara Jinks, the show will feature poems, stories, live music, song, and dance, all created and performed by local residents. There will also be a special guest appearance by Mister Snow. Shows are at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children and are available at the door or online at www.mercplayhouse.org. Pay-what-you-can-night is Dec 10.

Messiah sing-along

The Okanogan Valley Orchestra & Chorus (OVOC) invites all musicians and fans of Handel’s Messiah to join them in the annual read-through of the Christmas portion of Handel’s masterwork on Sunday (Nov. 30) beginning at 3 p.m.

The open sing-along (and play-along) is at the Church of the Brethren in Ellisforde, a few miles outside Tonasket.

This church has the only pipe organ in Okanogan County, which will be played by organist Mary Koch. Don Pearce, the conductor of the OVOC orchestra, will direct.

Soloists are not required to audition, but anyone interested in performing a solo aria should call Autumn Martin at (509) 322-0495 or Koch at (509) 322-0177.

People are welcome to come and sing, play one of the instrumental parts, or just listen. Scores will be provided. Admission is free, but donations to the pipe-organ maintenance fund will be appreciated.

Yuletide variety show

“A Swingin’ Yuletide” variety show featuring music and comedy will be presented on Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Methow Valley Community Center in Twisp, by Community Covenant Church. Suggested donation is $10. For more information, call 997-5428.
