Visalli offers ‘history of everything’ classes

Dana Visalli of The Methow Naturalist is offering a six-session class on the world around us called “A Short History of Nearly Everything: Geology, Biology and Humanity,” beginning in December.

Classes will be from 7-9 p.m. in Twisp on the first two Wednesdays in December (Dec. 3 and 10) and the four Wednesdays in January 2015. To enroll, call 997-9011 or email dana@methownet.com.

Cost is a sliding scale of $30-$60, or free for students and low-income residents.

Breakfast with Santa

Twisp Valley Grange is hosting breakfast with Santa Claus on Dec. 6 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Breakfast is $7.50 for those 12 and up, $3 for ages 4-11. Kids 3 and under eat for free.

Grange members will be serving up homemade pancakes with real butter and maple syrup, sausage and bacon, and organic pear sauce.

Santa Claus should arrive shortly after breakfast starts, according to organizer Wendy Braden, and kids can visit with the jolly old fellow as long as they want. Braden suggests bringing your own camera if you want a photo with Santa.

For more information, call 997-9357.

Tutors needed at Liberty Bell

Liberty Bell Junior/Senior High School is seeking volunteer tutors to help students with math, science, English, history and organizational skills.

No special skills are required, but volunteers should have a flexible time schedule and be committed to helping students succeed, according to volunteer tutor coordinator Laura Bitzes Thomas. “I will help place tutors with students based on personal experience and what age group they’re interested in working with,” she said.

Tutoring sessions may be scheduled before or after school or during advisory periods, Bitzes Thomas said.

Call 996-2215 for more information.

Community Thanksgiving dinner

The Methow Valley United Methodist Church hosts a free Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday (Nov. 27) from noon until 4 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. Turkey, ham and traditional side dishes will be served; potluck dish contributions are welcome. The church is located between Twisp and Winthrop on Highway 20. For more information, call Judy Tonseth at 997-5162.
