The Methow Valley business community is teaming up with other local organizations to promote holiday shopping and winter tourism as part of an effort to shore up the valley’s economy.
“Buy Methow for the Holidays” is a collaborative effort involving the Twisp and Winthrop chambers of commerce, the Methow Made program at TwispWorks and Spend a Ben, a project launched by the Methow Conservancy that encourages people to pledge that they will spend at least $100 in the valley over the holidays.
The effort will run through the end of the year, according to Julie Muyllaert, president of the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce. It will be promoted through social media, posters, and print and radio advertising.
Jenn Tate, owner of Earth and Sky Studios in Twisp and a member of the Okanogan County Tourism Council, told the Winthrop chamber last week that the tourism council is coordinating with the town of Winthrop and Methow Trails to launch a $25,000 campaign promoting winter tourism in both the Methow Valley and Okanogan County.
The money will pay for more than 400 TV ads in the Puget Sound market in December.
