Reconsider the sign
Dear Editor:
My husband and I are writing to express our strong disagreement, and disappointment, with the Winthrop Town Council over their decision to allow the state to add an electronic sign to our iconic “Welcome to Winthrop/Happy Trails” sign on the north edge of town.
Our disagreement with the council is not over whether the sign is a good idea or not; it’s a great idea. What we are very disappointed about is the location of the sign. Surely an alternative location, in close proximity, is available. How much more work would it take the council to discuss alternatives? And why does the council think they can disregard their own city signage requirements? It’s so out of character for our beautiful town.
Based on other letters in the Methow Valley News, we aren’t the only ones who feel this way. We would like the Town Council to keep this in mind and to please reconsider their decision. Please don’t sully the beauty of our city and sign by adding on an electronic one.
