Following a heart-stopping 35-28 Homecoming loss to the Bridgeport Mustangs on Oct. 17, things didn’t get any better for the Liberty Bell High School varsity football team when it dropped a road loss to the Shockers at Waterville, 56-34, on Friday (Oct. 24).
But if game could have been extended another quarter or so, they just might have.
“Waterville jumped out to an early lead on us,” said coach Brian Wilbur, while the best the Mountain Lions could muster was a touchdown in the first half of play.
“However, we came roaring back with 28 second-half points,” Wilbur said.
But while the momentum was on Liberty Bell’s side, time wasn’t, and the Mountain Lions returned home towing a three-touchdown loss.
As they have before every game this season, football players and parents will gather in the LBHS multipurpose room Thursday evening for a Football Club dinner prepared by activities director Hunter Maltais and volunteers.
The Mountain Lions will close out their season on Halloween (Oct. 31) as Senior Night hosts of the Oroville Hornets. At halftime, the team will say goodbye to seniors Chip Jones, Garrett Dornfeld, Dreton Acord and Isaac Cordes. Game time is 7 p.m.
