Thomas A. Henson, 67, of Benson Creek, was cited for alleged reckless burning Oct. 5 in connection with a grass fire on Benson Creek near Highway 153.

The fire was reported at 3:23 p.m. and Deputy Laura Wright of the Okanogan County Sheriff’s office responded. When she arrived, the fire was more than an acre in size, said Sheriff Frank Rogers.

Henson told Wright that he considered the fire to be under control, but the deputy disagreed, and issued him a citation for alleged reckless burning.

Fire crews from Okanogan County Fire District 6 and Department of Natural Resources responded to the fire. Cody Acord, District 6 assistant chief, said the grass fire was burning on 3 to 5 acres when they arrived, and took about four hours to put out.

DNR crews remained at the scene that night to monitor the fire, Acord said. He said no property appeared to be damaged in the fire.
