
Wallace “Wally” Ross Eggleston was born Oct. 6, 1925, to Clarence and Emma Eggleston in Port Orchard. Wally passed away on Aug. 2, 2014, in Wenatchee.
At the age of 17, Wally enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, rising to the rank of sergeant in aircraft mechanics. During his four years of service, Wally made several “brave and meritorious” flights as a ball turret gunner. He was awarded a flight medal and two gold stars.
After the end of the war on May 24, 1949, Wally married Glenna Paddock-Bertelsen of Joliet, Illinois. From there, Wally returned to the Seattle area and worked as a draftsman.
In December 1958, Wally moved his family to Mazama. There, the family worked hard on the ranch for the next 18 years. They made a living raising a variety of crops and animals. Wally was one of the founding members of the Okanogan County Farm Bureau, and later was a member of Chelan/Douglas County Farm Bureau. Wally was also an active and proud member of the National Rifle Association.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Jimmy Eggleston; his first wife, Glenna Eggleston; and his second wife, Carol Cox-Eggleston. He is survived by his brother Vern Eggleston of Port Orchard; his three children, Sherrie Smith and Linda Harvey of Lacey and Rich Eggleston (Patti) of Wenatchee; his four grandchildren, John Harvey (Adelas) of Selah, Brandon Harvey of Lacey, Amber Sturtz (Chad) of Wenatchee, and Cavin Eggleston (Bree) of Black Diamond; as well as four great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Evin Harvey of Selah, and Emma and Brianna Sturtz of Wenatchee.
A graveside service will be on Oct. 6 at noon at the Sullivan Cemetery in Winthrop. Arrangements are assisted by Telford’s Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
