Tool drive for fire, flood victims
The Carlton Complex Assistance Network (CCAN) is organizing a tool drive to benefit victims of the Carlton Complex Fire and floods.
The drive begins Friday (Sept. 19) and continues through Oct. 6. Donation boxes will be available at Methow Valley Lumber, Twisp; North Valley Lumber, Winthrop; Oroville Building Supply, Oroville; Midway Building Supply, Tonasket; Valley Lumber, Okanogan; Ag Supply Company, Brewster; Lake Chelan Builder Supply, Chelan; and Marson & Marson Lumber locations in Wenatchee, Leavenworth and Chelan.

Fire recovery workshop
The Okanogan Conservation District is offering a fire recovery workshop on Saturday (Sept. 20) at the Twisp Valley Grange from 9 a.m.-noon. The free workshop will provide information to landowners and residents to help them assess the impacts of the fire on plants and soil, make them aware of post-fire risks to life and property, and provide resources to make educated decisions about how to address the fire impacts. Co-op celebrates 75 years
The Okanogan County Electric Cooperative will celebrate its 75th anniversary with an open house on Sept. 28.
The free event will be from 2 – 4:30 p.m. at the co-op building on West Chewuch Road just outside of Winthrop, and will feature lunch, demonstrations, door prizes and music. For more information, call 996-2228.
Free day at state parks
Sept. 27 is a free day at Washington state parks. Day use visitors will not require a Discover Pass. The free day does not apply to overnight stays or rented facilities. Washington State Parks will have one more free day in 2014, on Nov. 11 in honor of Veterans Day.
Soup Dinner tickets on sale soon

Emergency planning meeting
The annual Okanogan County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) meeting is scheduled for Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. to noon at the sheriff’s office conference room, 123 Fifth Ave. N., Okanogan. The meeting is open to the public but is of special interest to elected officials (mayors and commissioners), city emergency managers, community leaders, the Washington State Patrol, the PUD, and others associated with utilities, fire departments, emergency medical services, law enforcement, public health, Red Cross, school districts, public works, landfill/transfer stations, the Colville Tribes, and industries that handle hazardous materials.
