Confluence exhibit opens Sept. 27

Confluence Gallery in Twisp opens its next exhibit, “The Big Sleep: Conversations on Finality,” on Sept. 27 with a reception from 4 – 8 p.m.

The exhibit will represent regional and local artists in a variety of mediums as they explore their own very personal and intimate thoughts on the subject of death. Curators Joanne Marracci and Vern White hope to ignite dialog on the subject with evocative and inspired works, according to a Confluence press release.

The exhibit runs through Nov. 8. For more information, call 997-2787.

In conjunction with the exhibit, on Oct. 29 Confluence will host a variety of speakers dealing with the subject of death. Details about the free event will be announced later.

Merc seeking stories about the fires

The Merc Playhouse, together with curator-director Rose Weagant, is putting together a personal history of the wildfires in the Methow Valley by creating an evening of sharing called BURN: Stories of the Fire, which will be performed on Nov. 22.

Contributors with personal stories connected with experiences of the wildfires this summer are invited to audition on Sept. 30 from 5 – 8 p.m. at The Merc. Stories should be five minutes or less, and be written in draft form. Audition pieces do not need to be polished. Rehearsals begin in mid-October.

The event is co-sponsored by Humanities WA. After the stories are presented, a discussion will be moderated by humanities scholar John Roth.

For more information, or to request another meeting time, call 997-7529 or email info@mercplayhouse.org.

Merc auditions for 2014 – 15 season

The Merc Playhouse in Twisp will hold general auditions for plays and readings in its 2014 – 15 season on Oct. 4 at 10 a.m. Anyone interested in participating in any aspect of theater can come talk to The Merc’s Artistic Director, Ki Gottberg, about opportunities in the 2014 – 15 season. Opportunities include acting, directing, costumes, set building, painting, stage managing, running lights, sound, doing props, set dressing and more.

The main stage shows at The Merc for the 2014 – 15 season include a witty thriller, Murder by the Book (Oct. 10 – 26); stories and dance of the season, Winter Wonder (Dec. 5 – 13); The Merc Children’s Theater doing Shakespeare’s comedy, As You Like It (March 6 – 15, 2015); and a trivial comedy for serious people, The Importance of Being Earnest (July 24 – Aug. 9, 2015).

In addition, many stage readings are planned throughout the year, which require less of a time commitment.

For more information, or to request another meeting time, email ki@mercplayhouse.org or call 997-7529.
