Thank you cards

Sixth graders from Burlington, Washington sent more than 40 handmade thank-you cards to Methow Valley firefighters last month, care of Fire District 6 Assistant Chief Cody Acord. A letter on City of Burlington stationery that accompanied the cards stated, “Please help to pass out the cards to the Methow Fire Department and area volunteers,” but there was otherwise “no obvious connection” with anyone at the fire district, according to Winthrop Captain John Owen. “These cards came to us at a good time and are good for the souls of the people here,” said Owen. Tired firefighters who returned to the station following a recent fire call “sat down and read them all before going home for the night,” Owen said.
