The Bear Creek Junior Golf Team held its season-ending tournament last Thursday (Aug. 28) at Bear Creek Golf Course. Competition included a three-hole scramble, a chipping contest and a putting contest.
Three teams competed and two of those tied with pars on each hole for matching scores of 11, so a playoff was held on par-four hole No. 1 to determine the winning team. The team comprised of parent Mike Hilton, and players Sam Otonicar, Carter Sheley and Adele Hilton birdied the hole to win over the team comprised of volunteer coach Charlie Thornton-White and players, Levi White, Willa Hilton and William Jennings, who bogeyed the hole.
Hilton hit a long tee shot that landed about 100 feet from the hole. Sheley then pitched the ball to within a foot of the hole and Otonicar nailed the putt for the birdie. Adele Hilton helped out with par-saving putts in the regular play.
The chipping contest winner was Sam Otonicar; Carter Sheley won the putting contest.
Coach Jenna Miller and the team celebrated the season with a barbecue and awards ceremony following the tournament. Awards included Most Improved Player, Carter Sheley; Best Player Attitude, William Jennings; Best Player Etiquette, David Kominak; and Most-Fun-to-Coach Award, Graham Sheley.
