No Duck Race this year
The 16th annual Duck Race, traditionally sponsored on Labor Day by Winthrop Kiwanis, will have to wait until next year. Kiwanis president Don Carlson said several Kiwanis members are on firefighting crews and the club has had other pressing matters to deal with. Carlson said the race — which involves dumping hundreds of rubber ducks into the Chewuch River from the bridge in downtown Winthrop, and then seeing which three bob down to the Methow River Bridge ahead of the others to win prizes for their lucky ticket-holders — will be back next year.
