The Merc Playhouse in Twisp has launched a search to replace Managing Director Jane Hubrig, who is leaving the role after six years as the theater’s day-to-day operations manager.

Merc board president Sue Gottula said it’s a high priority to find a local person to fill the job, which has the new title of executive director.

“We need someone in the valley who is familiar with the people and knows their way around,” Gottula said.

In classified ads placed in the News beginning this week, the Merc board said it is looking for “a community-minded leader who is passionate about The Merc.”

The executive director will be “chiefly responsible for the successful operation of the organization,” the job listing says. The position requires experience with management, marketing, fundraising, grant writing, budgeting and bookkeeping — plus “the ability to work with all kinds of people.”

The position is part-time but “requires a full-time heart commitment,” the job listing says.

Gottula said the board hopes to fill the position by Oct. 1. More information can be found at The Merc’s website, www.mercplayhouse.org.
