Motorcyclist injured in accident near Winthrop

A motorcyclist from Bellingham was injured Saturday (July 12) when he struck a deer on Highway 20 near Winthrop, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Steven H. Tatom, 55, was westbound near milepost 194 at about 11:50 a.m. and had just completed passing another vehicle and moved back into his travel lane when he hit the deer, the State Patrol said. Tatom was transported to Mid-Valley Hospital in Omak, the report said.

Tatom was wearing a helmet and no drugs or alcohol were involved, the State Patrol said.

Countywide burn ban

A burn ban is in effect for all of Okanogan County. The ban applies to all outdoor burning and open flames. Barbecues using propane, briquettes or electricity are allowed, according to Okanogan County Fire District 6.
