Big trout planted in area lakes in honor of Father’s Day

June 11, 2014 by Methow Valley News

Alta Lake and Conconully Reservoir will be two fisheries to pay particular attention to this Father’s Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday (June 14 – 15), thanks to a special stocking effort of large trout at those two Okanogan County lakes.

Alta and Conconully are two of 20 lakes around the state where fish hatchery crews from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Fish (WDFW) will be stocking 10,000 one-and-a-half-pound triploid rainbow trout before Father’s Day.

Conconully Reservoir will receive 750 of the big trout and Alta will get 400.

“This is the third straight year we’ve stocked triploid trout before Father’s Day,” said Chris Donley, inland fish program manager for the WDFW. “A fishing license is a great Father’s Day gift and catching these big fish will make for some wonderful memories.”

Fishing licenses can be purchased online at fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov/; by telephone at (866) 246-9453; or at hundreds of license dealers across the state.

For details on license vendor locations, visit WDFW’s website at wdfw.wa.gov/licensing/vendors.
