Rapture, Blister, Burn encores at The Merc

An encore performance of The Merc Playhouse Readers’ Theater production of Rapture, Blister, Burn will be presented Saturday (June 14) at the playhouse in Twisp. The play, a comedy written by Gina Gionfriddo and directed by Ashley Lodato, will begin at 7 p.m. Admission is by donation; the play contains adult content. The staged reading features Midge Cross, Danielle Micheletti, Jason Paulsen, Dani Reynaud and Laurelle Walsh. For more information, call 997-7529.

Johnston talks about alpinism

Local author Scott Johnston will present a slide show and sign copies of his recently published book, Training for the New Alpinism, on Saturday (June 14) beginning at 7 p.m. at the Mazama Community Club. Donations will be accepted to support Friends of Fun Rock. The event is sponsored by Goat’s Beard Mountain Supplies. For more information, call 996-2515.

Christian Swenson will perform at The Merc Playhouse on June 27 and 28, 2014.

Merc presents ‘Human Jazz’

“Human Jazz,” a fusion of dance, drama and music performed by Christian Swenson, will be presented at The Merc Playhouse in Twisp on June 27 and 28, with support by Bo Thrasher of Mazama. The shows begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for those 18 and under.

Swenson is a performing artist and teacher with an extensive background in dance, mime, voice and improvisation. The Seattle Times describes his show by noting that “his only instrument is his body … blurring the boundary between song, dance, and mime.”

Swenson will also present workshops on June 28 and 29. The Saturday workshop will be on movement and voice, from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The Sunday workshop is on vocal improvisation and will be from 1 – 2:30 p.m. Cost of each workshop is $10. For more information, call 997-7529.
