As part of the reorganization of the county’s approach to recreational facilities and the county fair, the county commissioners are seeking volunteers to serve on two boards—the Parks and Recreation Board and the Fair Advisory Committee.
The seven-member Parks and Recreation Board will advise the commissioners on matters related to the use, maintenance and construction of recreational facilities owned and managed by the county, including parks, trails and trailheads, and associated parking areas.
The 11-member Fair Advisory Committee will operate the county fair and advise the commissioners on matters connected with running the fair, including capital projects and related expenditures. The seven members of the former Parks and Recreation Board, which had primarily operated the county fair before the recent reorganization, can apply to serve on the new, larger committee responsible for the fair if they want to continue in that capacity.
For both groups, members should be able to attend at least one meeting a month. The fair committee will have more intensive responsibilities before and during the fair.
Anyone interested in serving should send a letter of interest and brief résumé to Laleña Johns, clerk of the board of commissioners, at ljohns@co.okanogan.wa.us, by Friday (May 23).
For more information, call Johns at (509) 422-7100.
