The 34th annual Sunflower Marathon & Relay hosted by the Methow Valley Sport Trails Association will leave the starting line at the Mazama Corral Trailhead at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday (May 10).
The Sunflower is expected to draw over 600 runners in each of its individual and relay races, making the race the largest recreational event in the valley.
The relay race is sold out with a record 125 teams, each comprised of two to five runners competing.
Registration remains open for individual marathoners at $85 per runner. Participants can sign up and find more information online at www.mvsta.com.
The 26.2-mile run starts at the Mazama Corral Trailhead, traverses both private and public lands and offers a vista of blooming arrowleaf balsamroot sunflowers — from which the Sunflower derives its name — before finishing in Twisp.
