The Washington State Auditor’s Office has partnered with the Municipal Research and Services Center of Washington to offer a series of workshops around the state to help local government officials and staff comply with requirements of the Public Records Act and the Open Public Meetings Act.
The Open Government & Transparency Training Sessions scheduled for this spring and summer are free but reservations are advised. The most convenient session for officials from the Methow Valley and Okanogan County will be on June 16 from 3 – 4:30 p.m. at Wenatchee City Hall. To register, go to eventbrite.com and do a search for Wenatchee.
Should a quorum of elected officials from a representative body attend, they will need to provide public meeting notice in compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act.
The sessions will also include a presentation by State Auditor’s Office staff on the role of the agency and common issues that arise during an audit.
Other sessions are in Longview (May 7), Spokane (June 18), Everett (July 9), Tacoma (July 10), Yakima (Sep. 17) and Tri-Cities (Sept. 18). Transparency Town Halls will follow the training sessions in Wenatchee and Everett.
