Brown wins national bike advocacy award

Joe Brown, co-owner of Methow Cycle and Sport in Winthrop, has been named winner of the Quality Bicycle Products 2014 Clay Mankin award, which recognizes retailers who inspire others with their commitment to bicycle advocacy, industry growth, and their passion for cycling.

Brown was nominated for the award in recognition of his advocacy efforts for fat bikes and mountain bike trails, according to a press release He also serves as a board member on the Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance, a statewide organization.

“Improving opportunities and access for cycling has been a collaborative effort in the Methow Valley over many years involving community members, Methow Cycle & Sport staff and customers, nonprofit organizations and public agencies,” Brown said. “I’m honored to accept this award on behalf of all the individuals and organizations that have been involved.”

Brown was presented with the award at a ceremony during Frostbike, Quality Bicycle’s annual open house and tradeshow in Bloomington, Minn.
